During the fourth meeting of the National Council of Public Confidence on October 21^st , 2020, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym – Zhomart Tokayev noted that Kazakhstani schoolchildren have a low level of reading literacy: … Therefore, instilling a high culture of reading, the development of reading literacy should become one of the priority areas of the educational process in Kazakhstani schools. Interest in reading, knowledge of the world around through books should be formed in children from school. And the library should be a place where this interest is concentrated, a guide to the fascinating world of books”.

Reading is a complex intellectual process without which learning throughout life is impossible. Reading is the most important factor in the formation and development of a personality. Nowadays, the role of the book is growing immeasurably.

The Reading School project is aimed at solving the main problem of the current crisis of children’s reading – a weak reading environment: a child grows up surrounded by adults who do not read. Therefore, the solution to the problem lies in the joint efforts of the library, family and school. In the modern world, a person is forced to learn throughout his life. One of the conditions for successful self-education is reading competence.
